For Kristen Fischer, the bigger story was about what she left behind and what these changes mean to her.The American mom, now living in India, recently shared in an Instagram video that her move across continents pushed her to give up three things, from food choices to daily habits and even self-doubt. What started as simple lifestyle shifts have now become lasting changes that she says make her feel healthier, happier, and more at ease.

The first change showed up at the dining table. Kristen adopted a vegetarian lifestyle soon after arriving, describing it as healthier, cleaner, and far more affordable. She says the switch felt surprisingly natural and has been a positive change for her entire family.The second shift was one that many could guess—ditching toilet paper. Kristen embraced the jet spray, India’s widely preferred option, and admitted she now prefers it to the old way. For her, there’s no going back.

But the most meaningful change was personal. Kristen says she’s left behind many of her insecurities, from doubts about language and culture to fears about belonging. She also highlighted a deeper sense of security, especially when it comes to raising her children in a place where school shootings aren’t a looming concern. Over time, she’s found that India hasn’t just changed her habits—it’s given her a stronger sense of peace and confidence.
